Freeform Mentalism by Peter Turner (Review)

It is no secret that I admire the thinking behind Pete Turners work and as such I was only to happy to delve into the contents of this double disc set. 

With over three hours of content I already knew that pound for pound this would be one of the best value Mentalism DVD sets to date.

Having known Pete personally for some time he has performed many of the effects from this DVD for me and as I result I know how hard hitting they are.  Whats more is that I have taken a lot of the thinking behind these effects and have applied them within my own work.

If I was to review each of many effects this would soon become an essay and so I will instead highlight some of my personal favourites from the set.

Wish You Were Here - This is one of the very first effects that Pete ever performed for me and it is a prime example of the amazing effects that can be achieved with words alone.  In short it allows you to describe in detail a place that someone is just imagining in their minds. Once you begin exploring the methodology behind this you will soon discover countless applications for its use.

A Gift From Me to You - In this effect you teach a spectator or group of spectators how to read someones mind.  After being taught this your spectators will be able to determine the identity of a card that someone is merely thinking of.  This one fooled my in a big way along with another bunch of seasoned magicians and mentalists.

Name Guess - Finally Pete reveals his work on revealing names which are merely thought of.  Yes there is a technique for achieving this and it is far easier than you could ever imagine.  This is as good as it gets.

IPI Induction - For anyone who uses hypnosis within their routines (real or implied) then this gives you the seeming ability to place your volunteers in a trance like state at your will.  For those who want to make their mentalism more visual then this is great.

Time Force - Pete's work on this is amazing and with this technique alone you can force almost anything upon your spectator, best of all no props are required.

Besides the host of amazing effects on this set I personally feel that the real value lies within the copious amount of principles which are taught within the context of each routine.  I do not lie when I say that I would have personally paid five times the price of this set for these tools alone.

In short if you are interested in mentalism then this is a must have set.  I can't recommend it highly enough.
